Statements gathers together some of the works developed by Ana Mendes over the last few years. These works came out of necessity; a direct, personal response to the current political climate. Many of the works are accidents - outcomes of unexpected events - starting with her performance Self Portrait and ending with the existence of this exhibition, which was originally designed to be a group show. The title also refers to the artist’s inability to write an artist statement, or rather the belief that the works are the statements themselves.
